There was a few of us who used to go 'ghost hunting' as teenagers, in an old derelict mansion and at a derelict farm on a roman road, we encountered everything that you will find in ghost lore, with the exception of a poltergiest.
When I was a student, living in a crappy bed sit in an large old house, the ghost of a servant used to come in the room every morning with a breakfast tray (not a real one ) and put it where I presume a set of drawers once stood, then as he turned to leave he would disappear. I saw him on the stairs on two different occasions too. It was just a recording really, not scary at all.

Augmented, there are many researchers who do believe adolescents attract poltergeists (or other ghosts). That should make some nervous, but it could make for some interesting encounters.

That is undoubtably true, and they are nearly all girls, my theory is that the entities use the immensely powerful sexual forces that are manifesting in pubescent adolescents to 'manifest' and cause all the effects so well known of poltergiests. This phenomena is often associated with children who are trying to 'resist' the onset of adulthood.
My theory as to why it mostly affects families with girls is because 'self abuse ' is more prevelent amongst boys, so the pent up energy used by these entities is not available.
(Does anyone else remember they did a poltergiest plot on 'The Waltons' with the younger ginger girl ? )

Arthur C Clarke talked about adolescents and ghosts/poltergeists in his show of the 1970s. Also, Colin Wilson wrote about several cases of poltergeist happenings which had adolescents living at the homes. I do think it is mainly girls and probably for the reason you state.

Re: Do you believe in ghosts?

I'm the lonely one who voted undecided. I've been experiencing paranormal activity for 2 years almost to the date. In all of my experiences there has only been one sighting as what could be considered a ghost or spirit and that was one of an animal. I've seen what could be refered to as shadow beings and unexplained shadows, objects being moved(one of which I witnessed), unexplained noises, an unexplained photo, various fleeting orbs and even manipulations of reality(which is really creepy). It's a lose-lose situation, If I deny these events happend then I'm pretty much admitting I'm crazy, but if I talk about them then eveyone else will think that I'm crazy. I really don't know what's going on except that I don't understand. It could be timetravelers, aliens, people from another dimension(which could be ghosts) or God himself. I know the people on this forum are open minded and non-critical or else I wouldn't have posted this. Sorry if I rambled, just somethig I've been wanting to put out there for a while but haven't been able to find a place I felt comfortable doing so. I'm a slow typer so I'm not going to risk losing this to go see who started this post, but thank you!

I started the post because I was curious as to what other people on this forum felt about ghosts/spirits, whether they believed in them or not.

I guess there are many like yourself that have had experiences but deny it because they don't want to sound crazy. Many people have experiences and don't even realize it, you know those times you feel like you've been touched or brushed up against, perhaps you've heard your name called or seen something move out of the corner of your eye and all the time you know there's no one else there!

If your crazy then every member of this forum must be crazy, just look at the posts and the subjects we discuss.

I like to go out ghost hunting when I can, so I guess I must be crazy!

Reading between the lines, it obviously took a lot for you to share your experiences and thoughts with us, I for one am happy that you did, thanks you.

You know what? I've reached an age where I really could care less about what people think of me or if they want to call me crazy! haha! I am just trying to learn and to absorb as much as I can during the time given to me. I know that my own experiences with the spiritual world cannot be repeated or "replayed" for others, and I know there are many folks out there who have had their own personal experiences they feel that they cannot share, it does not mean that they were not real! They were!

So whoever might be telling you that you're crazy - just smile and KNOW.

Everyone - I'm serious though, I don't care. I believe what I believe and I am open and eager to learn about what other folks believe and experienced. I won't laugh at you, I won't ridicule you, I just want to hear and learn about your experience - so please do share!

Outside Box, you have a safe place here on the forum to voice experiences, opinions, etc. From the posts I have read people here are open minded and interested in what you have to say, and at least from my standpoint, it has been a very pleasant experience. Outside Box, I hope you find it to be true also.

combined posts per forum rules-MM

The only experience with ghosts/spirits I have personally had was when my husband and I moved to our current home. When we were unloading boxes and getting everything put away, I briefly saw a woman dressed in a long white gown, black hair move from the hallway into our bedroom. When I went into the bedroom our dog was sitting staring, but no one was there. Hasn't happened since, but I'd really like to see her again.

I absolutely believe!!!!!
I had a friend a long time ago who had some serious poltergeist activity in her home. It stopped after her troubled teenage stepdaughter moved out at 18. After the girl moved out, my friend & her husband went into the girls room to redecorate it & found a pentagram painted on the wall behind a curtain.

I don't know if it was her daughter & her angst that caused the activity or what she was doing that brought something out, but it all stopped the day she left for the final time. The last I heard, nothing has happened since.

I also have something in my home, but I'm not real sure what, if anything more than my imagination; it is. I would love to have a psychic come to my place to see if there is "anyone" living with us, but at the same time I'm also a little freaked out by the idea that I'm sharing living space with a ghost, spirit, entity, or whatever you like to call them. I'm not sure how I would react if I found out for sure that my house was haunted.

I have always been of the mind not to care if people think I'm crazy. I believe what I believe but I'm still open minded enough to listen to opposing views. Granted, most of what I believe falls outside what is considered "mainstream" that doesn't mean I'm crazy. It doesn't make anyone else who believes crazy either! We know what we know and believe what we believe from our own personal experiences with the paranormal. That's why I like it here, open mindedness abounds!

Postby forgottentales » Fri Feb 03, 2012 6:10 am

I've had wayyyy too many experiences with ghosts. My grandmother visited me at the foot of my bed the night she died. The next morning we found out she died and I asked, what time she died because I saw her at 9pm at the foot of my bed. She died at 8:57pm.

Right now I have a guy living in my Workshoppe. I described him to my hubby. He was like:
He said: "That's my Uncle Frank who died when I was a kid". He hunted through some old pictures he had taken when he was a kid and he had one picture of Uncle Frank. I told my hubby the guy wears a greenish grey fidora hat and his ears stick out under it. There was the picture of Uncle Frank in the exact clothes I described him in, exact height and personality (Uncle Frank has a good sense of humor) I had described, and in that fidora hat with his ears sticking out under it. I told hubby that his ears don't normally stick out, it's that the hat is too big. He concurred that fact.

Uncle Frank opens the door to the workshoppe for me. The shop leans away from the door so that there is no way the door can swing open. It slams shut if you let the door go, but Uncle Frank will hold it open for me and it will shut behind me just as if a human had a hold of it. I'm not afraid of Uncle Frank, not even the first time he opened the door did I have any fear.

Hey sax.
My friend investigates places thought to be "haunted". If you think something weird is going on, he and a crew of ghost hunters will come and usually spend a nite, with cameras, microphones, ect.
I've watched and listened to the stuff they've captured, and some of it's pretty creepy. They actually do seem to be getting responses after they see or hear something unusual and try to communicate with it.
They cover the south jersey region. If anyone thinks they know of somewhere that deserves further investigation, PM me and I'll forward the info or give you some contact info.
The Cape May area where I'm from has lots of "haunted places", so much so that theres a lot of books of local ghost stories, and a cottage industry (literally) where you can go and/or stay overnite.
As for my personal belief, do ghosts really exist, I think theres paranormal activities surrounding us at any given time or place, and the best explanations we can come up with are far too simple and subjective for me.
......
Having said that, I think it's possible that an unseen "entity" gave me a gift, that's one of my most prized and by far most unusual possessions. The circumstances surrounding how I got this gift have baffled and bothered me since it happened, but I try to keep an open mind.
... Peace.

Forgottentales your story about Uncle Frank jogged my memory. A few blocks down the street from us is a house with a ghost in it. One day the kids from the family living there were talking to another neighbor and told the neighbor that they were sure they had a ghost in the house and he seemed harmless, the kids said they call him George. The neighbor about fell over because the last person to live in the house was an old guy named George that died in the house. And the people in there didn't know anything about it. So they just happened to call the ghost by his real name.

Hey Louise Baltimore. Think you can travel back to 1969, kidnap Jimi Hendrix, and bring him back. I have a sitar, maybe he'll put on a show for us.

I'm glad I didn't know his name. He doesn't talk much but I'm sure I have gotten a few thought transferences from him. Every once in a while, when I walk past the Shop, a thought will come into my head. It is always a thought totally unrelated to what's on my mind at the moment. When that happens it's clearly not 'me' thinking, but I surmise it's Uncle Frank. I heard; "Look to the Left" one day. I stopped and looked right because it seemed to have come FROM the right, but all that was to my right was the Shop, with it's garage door rolled up. Immediately I thought it was Uncle Frank so, obediently, I looked left. I didn't see anything so I started walkiing and again: "Look left". This time I saw it. A huge Owl leaning forward on a horizontal limb of a tree just 50yds away was lining up my cat for a take down.

So many different phenomena we cannot explain but that are very very real. Some of them may be "ghosts", some of them may be "residue energy" (for lack of a better word).

After I had moved into my current home (rental) I started having sleepless nights, tossing around, having anxiety attacks and severe sweats, and even felt a dull pain all over my body when lying in bed at night. Turned out that the previous renter had died of cancer in that very same bedroom. I did a "cleansing" of the bedroom and the whole house and my problems disappeared. So I'm pretty sure that this was the negative energy that had been left in there, caused by the pain and suffering of the old gentleman that had died. I don't think it was his ghost haunting me, just the negative energy caused by his suffering...... at least that's my theory.

The funny thing about Uncle Frank is that the building, the Workshoppe, I bought and had moved here. The old workshoppe that he used to hang out in is about 2,000 feet away and on the other side of the highway. This part of the property was virgin woods, cleared by my hubby's grandfather, but since it is basically a sand mound, was never farmed. Pigs were turned out on the front part but Uncle Frank never even hung out over in this area. I believe he's still here and since his old workshoppe is chock full of JUNK and used as storage to the point that you can't even walk thorugh it, he has taken up residence in mine. If he'd only help me clean it once in a while...........................
