ERROR BY MAXMERCURY

I have committed a grievous error by accidentally pruning the names of people on this board. Over half will have to restart their accounts due to my stupidity. I hope they don't think it is anything they did other than my own fault.

I apologize for any inconvenience I have caused the members here. I have submitted my resignation as an administrator/moderator for this.

Not to worry max, happens to us all at some time or other, I've managed to ban myself from my own board several times (hint, have more than one admin account!)

Can you put a notice at the top of the board to tell people they have to re-register, in case they don't look at the list of topics?

I tried to do that but can't find a way to do it. Hopefully since Max and I have practically spammed the boards with new threads about it, people will see atleast one of them.

Hey Max, accidents happen. My wife immediately knew it was MY fault when I read the Help forum post by Metaluna (which seems to have vanished). She's right, isn't she. ... If I'm back on so fast, there's nothing to worry about. Things always seem worse than they really are when sh*t first happens.
My vote is for you to continue doing what you've been doing, and that's making this a better experience for all.

Sorry, Majeston. I put in one wrong digit and it created the havoc you see before you. Everything was lost other than your posts. You have to start from day one again, but you can use your name still.

I looked for ways to undo this stupidity on my part, but could not find anything. Luna also looked to try to get back messages but they are all gone.

I humbly apologize for this as you lost important information. I can only hope those kind members resend the information for you.

I am putting this down as a HUGE learning moment and am deeply sorry about what havoc I caused.

Great thanks Meta that,s the way to do it, get Jeff fast and do a global restore every newsgroup has that ability.

Max don,t worry, everybody mKes mistakes, this is not something to resign or be fired over.

Can you temporarily change the bit where it says "Welcome to the Legendary Times Magazine / A.A.S. R.A. Forum! Discuss controversial topics with Ancient Aliens fans and like-minded truth-seekers from all over! Have fun, and always be courteous to each other. Don't Die " to something about technical difficulties, please re-register...?

Or send a mass email to everyone?

So far about a third of the active users are back in service. I also think this being the holidays is why they are not finding out about my error yet.

Welcome back, Rattlehead. I apologize for the inconvenience I caused you. I am sincerely sorry you are a newbie again (although you are not and we know it here!)

I have been pretty busy lately and my computer went down (again) so I was late to the party.

Though it looks like a huge problem, its not too bad. Nobody needs to resign. Everyone makes some mistake or other and this one is somewhat easily fixed by anyone who notices their account is deleted and then signs back up with the same name. If someone shows up later, if they don't notice this thread, we can still help them out.

I would have tried to do a restore of a backup, but since the site is hosted offshore and since I'm not a database guru, I may have only just created a bigger mess. I would only have tried that if we had actually lost posts. Sorry about the Personal mail.

Max, you are now officially an administrator of the forum. Welcome!

Also, Thanks to everyone for being so helpful and understanding. and especially, thank you Max and Metaluna for staying on top of this. This coming year, I will be campaigning for a new system to run this board. Maybe we can come up with something a little more user-friendly...?
