Legendary Times Magazine Forum 'Netiquette'

Postby Giorgio Tsoukalos » Sun Jan 13, 2008 1:01 pm

'Netiquette' is a catch-all term for the conventions of politeness recognized in online forums such as internet message boards, blogs, etc.

These conventions address group phenomena (such as flaming) with changes in personal behavior, such as not posting in all uppercase, not (cross-)posting to inappropriate groups, refraining from commercial advertising, etc.

Do Not Make ANY References to Any Corporate Bookstores
No Barnes and Noble, no river, etc. This Forum is run by http://www.LegendaryTimesBooks.com ! If you need a book, we'll get it for you! ...our customer service experience is exceptional.

Do Not Flame
Thou shalt not flame thy fellow Member!

Do Not Spam
In other words, do not post ads for the solicitation of sales nor posts of overt self-promotion. Also, please do not spam the different folders with repetitive threads on the same subject.

Do Not Double Post
Double posting often clutters up a thread and can cause the discussions to become chaotic and hard to read. If you are replying to several different people, open the reply box in a separate window and copy/paste the users you wish to reply to.

Please Check Your Post for Errors before Posting
We very much understand that this is an international Forum and not everyone is a very good typist or that English may not be everyone's first language. However, overuse of internet slang makes it difficult even for most English speaking members who type in full sentences to understand what is being said. It is perfectly fine if you are not good at spelling and grammar, but a good attempt to type coherently, using paragraphs and full stops at the ends of sentences, is MUCH appreciated. It makes it easier for others to understand your opinion and thoughts!

Think Before You Post
Moderators have always emphasized quality over quantity as well as propriety (being polite, proper) over rudeness. It is possible to be negative in a post and still make a positive contribution to the Forum. Negative opinions and constructive criticism are welcome - as long as they are polite and not insulting.

Report Rules Violations
If you find there are Members who are breaking the rules, please report them by sending a PM and let the moderators take care of the problem. For newbies, a friendly reminder or link to the Rules Forum or a simple explanation is considered a Good Samaritan Gesture. If anyone in a thread points out politely that you may be violating a rule, in turn, please DO NOT reply with attitude.

Post Count
The moderators and visitors value Quality over Quantity on this Forum. Therefore, the post count is considered inconsequential. The reason why there is a 10 character minimum limit is to encourage members to get involved in our community. A high post count does not give you any privileges over other (newer) Members.

Leaving the Forum
If you feel you no longer enjoy this Forum for any reason, by all means, we are not going to make you stay. This is the Internet and you may come and go as you please. However, the moderators do not believe making a "Goodbye" thread is necessary. If you wish to leave, just do it. There is no need for drama. If you want certain people on the board that you have befriended to know that you are leaving, PM them or contact them through email. We are not going to make any effort to get rid of your account because there's no need to ban you or anything along those since you are freely choosing to leave the Forum.

Closing a Thread
Please understand that closing a thread is nothing personal 100% of the time. Threads are closed because there was a rule violation or a flame war ensued within the thread. There is nothing personal about closing them. Please, do not think you are being targeted by moderators because you are not. The mods would not target anyone purposefully, nor do they have the time to do it.
