Cool idea Max! I went to the theater about two weeks ago. My mother and sister dragged my daughter and I to go see "Rango". I had seen the previews for it before, and I wasn't real impressed with it at that time. Anyways, heres my two cents on it.

http://www.rangomovie.com

I'll start off by saying I had thought this movie was meant for children of all ages, and apparently so did everyone else there. My daughter is six and just about every kid there was her age or younger. It started off fine, but by the end I was a little pissed and not really disappointed because like I said before I wasn't impressed with the previews anyways. It is a very predictable movie, I mean verrrryyyy predictable. The comedy parts were just okay, my daughter who normally laughs at the dumbest things laughed only once! But what pissed me off was all the adult "humor" in it. In one of the scenes Johnny Depp's character has his arm around a naked barbie doll, and he's sitting there chatting away to her. Right at the end of the scene he looks down at barbie's tatas and says "Are those real?"....yeah it made me giggle, but then my daughter turns to me and asks, "Mom, what did he mean by that?" I was like...ahhhhh, shhh your not suppose to talk in the movie theater. lol Anyways, there was alot of cussing in the movie, and I thought that was completely uncalled for, since it was assumed to be a childrens movie. With all that aside it might make for a good rental but I wouldn't recommend buying it or wasting money at the theaters. I give this movie a C.

This is the first time I ever written out a full review on a movie, I think  I sometimes suffer from CRS. haha If I rambled on too much or something let me know and I'll work on it.

I think you should stick to the G rated cartoons for your young daughter. I have noticed the PG ones are rather crude, and you can get away with a lot in a PG rated movie. (In All the President's Men, the F word is used multiple times and it is still PG rated.)

I think the over saturation of those moves is why the makers are crossing the line to get more teenagers to buy tickets.

That is because Mars Needs Moms failed miserably taking in only $36 million worldwide.

Oh yeah, I will most definitly will stick to the G rated ones. I don't remember PG being so crude when I was younger, but I guess in their minds ticket sales mean more than anything else, nowadays.

Duplicity (2009)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1135487/

Julia Robers and Clive Owen play industrial spies in this complex movie with some comical overtones. Paul Giamatti is always good and does not disappoint as the head of one of the companies who steal other ideas. This is one movie where a person has to pay attention to as things progress or one could get lost easily.

That also is a problem with this movie as it gets a little convoluted especially toward the end. I like Julia Roberts, but did not see the chemistry between her and Clive. Still, this movie is entertaining and hard to predict. B-

Suck (2009)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1323605/

This is one of the strangest and goofiest movies I have seen in a long time. A rock group has its lone female get bitten by a vampire and they become popular. Plenty of music and songs, plus Malcolm McDowell as a vampire hunter is a lot of fun. Rock icons Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Henry Rollins and Moby also add to the movie.

I will admit I was expecting the movie to suck like the title suggested, but I really liked this very low budget indie flick. Lots of little jokes aimed at rock culture and Alice Cooper alone is worth seeing. If one wants their vampires with some bite, this little movie is a good idea. B+

Another Big Trouble in Little China fan, yeah! Maxmercury, John Carpenters' Vampires is great also. I like anything Vampire-y, with the exception of Twilight, having never seen it. I also love anything by Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2 especially), Pulp Fiction, etc etc. I just saw The Box, which is another one Giorgio recommended, awesome!

I finished watching Eat Pray Love last night and I got to say it was a very good movie. I found it inspirational, and motivating. I could also relate to the main character which doesn't happen much in a movie, and there were about four or five lines in the movie that really made me think and of course made me cry, but not at the moments you would expect. On Netflix its only at a rating of about 3 out of 5 stars, I found that a bit surprising. The movie is based off a book, and like all movies based off books, this one did not live up to written version from what I read in the comments. I personally have not read the book so I can't say how it rates on that aspect. If the ending would have been more of a surprise and not so predictable this would have been rated an A. I do recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys thought provoking lines, a little romance, and multi-cultured films. I rate this a B+.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0879870/

"Julia Roberts stars in this adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's best-selling memoir about coping with a depressing divorce. After deciding to reshape her life, Liz (Roberts) travels the world in search of direction. She heads to Italy, India and Bali, indulging in delicious cuisine while seeking the true meaning of self-love, family, friendship and forgiveness. Along the way, she meets a bevy of characters and, possibly, her true love."

I enjoyed Eat Pray Love too. I liked Julia Roberts in this movie, although I found her to be a bit spoiled and at times wanted to scream at her about having it too good here. I also wondered how she could afford the thousands of dollars of traveling and affording the rent in Rome and other expensive areas. But that is nitpicking and I liked the characters in the movie which more than made up for the huge plot holes. C+

The Toy Story Trilogy

I watched all three of these on Starz for a marathon. They are really fun movies to watch and great for the kids. I thought number three started off slow and seemed to be a bit of a retread in parts of the other two. I also wish they would of used real human actors especially at the end. I loved the ending of number 3, but nothing compares to the emotion of a real human face. A, A, B

The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1095217/

This movie is not so much a sequel or remake but a retelling of a story. It has many of the same themes as the Harvey Keitel movie Bad Lieutenant but gives us an explanation as to why he becomes an addict. Nick Cage is at his hammiest best in this movie, and the direction by cult director Werner Herzog is first rate. This also isn't as depressing as the original movie as there is some redemption here. Harvey Keitel really hammed it up in his version of the movie so I think it is best to watch his first and then the Nick Cage version. A lot of people who like the original (I didn't) hate this version of it. I actually like this one a lot more as it delves into who the character really is. The original is just about his bad behavior. B+ and not for kids.

Clash of the Titans!(The newer one)

I hesitated on seeing this for two reasons, I love the original movie, and I didn't hear very good reviews about it. I broke down and finally watched it last weekend when I was layed up and nothing else was on. After watching it I really wanted to kick my arse for not seeing it in the theater. It reminded me alot of the movie 300, I'm not quite sure why but it does. I loved the characters/actors, they were all fantastic. At first I wasn't real impressed that Liam was playing Zeus, but by the end I was okay with it. Sam Worthington played his part perfectly, I think this is the first movie I've seen him in. They did add some new things through out and I think most of it went over quite well. What I didn't like was the way they left out so much of the story, it was like they rushed through the storyline, and I absolutely do not like the fact that Pegasus was black nor the only one of his kind. Pegasus didn't seem as magical or special in any way like in the old version, instead hes more like an evil lookin' thing that brings no light or magic to the darkness of the movie. With that a side I would definitley recommend seeing it if you haven't already. I give it a B+.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0800320/

If he is to save the life of the beautiful Princess Andromeda (Alexa Davalos), the valiant Perseus (Sam Worthington) -- born to a god but raised as a man -- must lead a team of intrepid warriors on a quest to battle a host of powerful, beastly enemies. This sweeping fantasy epic, a remake of the 1981 hit, also stars Liam Neeson as Zeus, Ralph Fiennes as Hades, Danny Huston as Poseidon and Gemma Arterton as Io.

Unknown 2011
Liam Neason, is great in this one.
Surely a mind twister that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It keps you thinking, truly a thriller that you should see.
A great story that keeps you guessing.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1401152/

Also I just saw Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise. A movie from 2001 that I had neve seen.
I'm not a real fan of Tom Cruise but this had a story that kept you guessing also.
If you have not seen it and you like mystery/sci-fi, give it a try.
It is also a worth wild view.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0259711/

I saw a move that some of you may like, again with Liam Neason.
It is called Michael Collins. 1996 Biography/thriller/drama
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117039/

If you like a good story, suspence, mystery, sci-fi give'um a try. I think you will be pleased.....

I saw these following movies:

Star Trek (2009): I loved how they did the reboot and it was great to see Leonard Nimoy back as Mr Spock to pass the torch. The actors added a different dimension to the well known roles out there and did a great job of making them their own. I always found Chekov to be annoying in the old TV series, but the young actor who plays him here actually gave him some worth and reason to be on the bridge. B+

To Paris With Love (2010): John Travolta plays a spy who does not conform to the rules. Sound familiar? This movie is very formulaic and predictable, with many violent shoot outs and action sequences. It actually is fun to watch if one does not actually delve into the plot holes. C+

Young Frankenstein: Mel Brooks' affectionate parody of horror movies is still the classic. A great cast at hand: Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Madeline Kahn, Peter Boyle and many others have scene stealing moments.

Machete: A fun blood and guts tribute to the old R rated drive-in movies. Danny Trejo stars as the title character based on a fake trailer in the movie Grindhouse. This is a very entertaining and mindless movie, just like those movies in their hayday. B

Abbott & Costello Meet the Mummy: The swan song featuring the comedy duo, this time paired with another of Universal Studios' monsters. The movie was made in 1955 at a time when both A&C and the old monsters were not popular anymore (except on late night TV). I loved this movie as a kid, but you can see how tired everyone involved in this movie is. For diehard fans only. C

Hot Tub Time Machine: This is a raunchy comedy about three friends (and the one's nephew) who go back in time via a hot tub. Some big laughs in this one with John Cusack leading the pack. B-

The Last Airbender: A kids movie about a young teen boy who is the reincarnation of an avatar. Great special effects and martial arts with the usual plot. The boy who plays Aang is good, but the movie is only book one of many parts. C+

Favorite Movies!

Postby Saxoneer » Thu Oct 27, 2011 2:43 pm

Okay everyone, what's your favorite movies?

I love anything sci-fi especially the old 50s movies. I liked 'War of the Worlds', the Tom Cruise version, the only gripe was having the machines already here and underground. If you've read the book you'll understand.

'Avatar', great movie, can't wait for the next!

And last but not least, 'Paul'. Hilarious movie, I laughed myself silly, hope they make a Paul 2.

Okay I didn't see the Entertainment Board so I guess this will be moved, duh!

I like Burnt Offerings and the original Village of the Damned too.

Son of Frankenstein, 1939, with Basil Rathbone, Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Lionel Atwell the local policeman Inspector Krogh who bears an artifical arm. (Think Kenneth Mars in Mel Brook's Young Frankenstein). Basil Rathbone is Wolf Frankenstein, the Dr. Frankenstein's son, he comes home with his wife and small son and finds Ygor and the Monster...This movie is really an oddity and extremely fun. The sets looks like something out of a German Expressionist film.

A more recent horror film I think is extremely good cheesy scary fun is Wes Cravens The People Under The Stairs.

I'm not big on a lot of gore, unless it is cheesy, then I can handle it.

My all time fav zombie movie is Undead a 2003 Australian zombie horror comedy. Zombies and Aliens...who could ask for more than that. Anybody that likes Shaun of The Dead would love this movie.

The Innocents with Deborah Kerr and the same little boy, the main creepy kid, that is in The Village of The Damned is in it. What a great little actor that kid was.it is probably the scariest movie I have ever seen, it doesn't matter how many times I see it, it still creeps me out everytime.

I also saw The Innocents and agree that little boy is a great actor. The movie itself was a bit slow, but still had some atmosphere to it. I also liked The Haunting, but did not think it was as scary as some claimed it to be. Great actors in it, but it moved quite slow and was predictable.

I also am not one who is into gore as I don't think it is that scary. I know the gore is fake and that probably takes a bit away from the experience of the movie.

I liked the movies from the 1970s including some TV movies that dealt with mysterious subjects. They were always fun and some even gave me nightmares when I was younger. Especially one about a woman who was buried alive by her sinister husband. A woman hears the lady and no one believes her. I can't think of the title of the name of the actress in it, but it was scary at the time.

I love the old 1930s horror movies as you were more sympathetic to the monster than the humans. Bride of Frankenstein is probably the best one ever made as Elsa Lancaster was perfect in it. The costume she wore will always be remembered.

Many find The Other to be boring, but it is one of the best psychological movies ever made. Today's audiences might figure out the plot early on as it has been used over and over again, but this is one of the best uses of it. There is no upfront gore in it, but that makes one imagine the violence which happens to some of the persons in the movie.

Night of the Scarecrow is a good Halloween horror movie that was made for TV. There was a site where one could find these TV movies made in the 1970s and 80s. If anyone here knows it, please post it here.

Currently after viewing "RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES it is being bumped up to my top favorite five movies of all time.

I absolutely loved it. I think the taking out the human aspect in the movie and allowing the audience to develop feelings for the Chimp was great, but I am not going to lie felt Disney to me in some aspects because I literally cried 4 times watching the darned thing!!! =0) but it ends well. Not going to spoil it but I felt it was an excellent precursor to the Original Heston film. Although I am pretty sure that it wasn't to really do anything with the original Planet of the Apes franchise.

top 5 now are.

5.) The Godfather

4.) Close Encounters of the Third Kind

3.) Roswell

2.)Rise of the Planet of the Apes

1.) Gone With the Wind (hello ladies where are you ??? )

epic just epic!!! I have a lovely top 20 but not going to bore you with all of my Indie Brit films..

I do love the channel TCM as they show so many of the old classics out there. They even show many other studios older movies and own the libraries of Universal (older titles), MGM/UA, Columbia (up until the 1990s), Paramount (older titles) and many others. Of course they have the Warner library which has some of the best classics of all time.

We'll always have Paris.

Hey all. Borrowed "From Beijing With Love" from the library. Another gem from Steven Chow (Kung Fu Hustle). Has an anyone besides Metaluna seen Kung Fu Hustle? Totally awsome film. And funny.
"From Beijing With Love" (1994) has that Steve Chow style, and now I can't wait to see more of his stuff. As a kinda sleeper agent 007 type, Steve is called on to recover a huge stolen dinosaur head.
This movie is so original. Wait til you see what he uses for anesthesia while getting a bullet out of his leg. And he uses his mental controls to divert the blood away from the bullet hole to .....
This is not a spoiler, but when I saw the little fly on the wall, I thought what a remarkable way to let the audience know youre about to get your moneys worth.
I don't like reading subtitles during films where theres a lot of action, but it didn't seem too bad this time. It may be available with english dubbed in, like Kung Fu Hustle.
Methinks you'll like this one, Louise Baltimore.
... Peace.

Faust - in the beginning Everyman cracks open the egg. And then.....
Freaking ingenious. Thnx for reminding me of Faust. It was dubbed in english. So you could watch the show. This film is tripping (can I say that?) It's now on my watch again list.
... Peace.

I bought the Kino Restored Deluxe Edition.

This special Kino edition contains the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation’s meticulous restoration of the original German version of the film (with unique hand-painted intertitles), as well as a lengthier alternate cut prepared by the Ufa Studios in 1930. That’s the one that was release in the USA.

This movie and the restored Metropolis are some of my prized possessions.

I love the German Expressionist films of the 1920’s and early 30’s. It was such a brief period of time, but what an impact it made on the film industry. There is really not much to compare these films to, they are their own unique genre. A few of my other favorites are, The Golem:And How He Came Into The World, The Man Who Laughs, The Cabinet of Dr, Caligari, Nosfuratu, M , and Svengali 1931, made in the U.S. but reeks of German Expressionism, which is not so surprising, the art director was the famous Anton Grot. He was born 1884 in Poland and came to the United States in 1909 following studies in design and illustration at the Krakow Art School and at a technical school in Koenigsberg, Germany. I have often wondered if his work on Svengali was an homage to German Expressionism.

Well anyway film history is a real mad passion for me.

Ah, Metropolis, with the Tower of Babel imprinted onto my emotions. How bigs your screen, how comfortable's the couch. Gotta bottle of Cafe Zinfandel and some dark chocolates to bring.

Oh it's only 32", but it is a nice LCD flat screen.

Vodka and cheetos and then you are talkin'. Your refreshment choice is much more refined than mine.

Anyway Metropolis is so wonderful. I am a real fan of Fritz Lang, he made some really brilliant film-noirs.
