A silly/serious stream-of-consciousness connection...

Postby seeker1117 » Sat Jun 25, 2011 6:24 pm

Re-watching all the episodes since we got the DVDs, and it suddenly hit me...

I'm more than old enough to remember when Johnny Carson ruled the late-night TV airwaves.

One of his funnier "shticks" was when he donned a turban and became "The Great Karnak", who placed an envelope to his forehead and "foretold" the the answer to the question that was in it.

Karnak...Carnac...hmmm...

Could Johnny have been privy-to/interested-in the Carnac stones? At any rate, every time I hear Childress talk about Carnac, I think of Johnny Carson in a turban!

Just a thought...we gotta have some sorta sense of humor about this stuff, folks!

There is also the Karnak Temple Complex in Egypt Mr Carson might have used as a basis for the name. That was one name that usually stuck out when taking ancient history classes.

Mr Carson was also a magician and he used his show to debunk Uri Geller when he guested. The famed "psychic" came on the show and was presented with the usual props he used himself when dowsing for water or bending spoons. The interesting thing is that Johnny and his crew would not let Uri Geller or his staff near the items.

Here is a video of that part of the show (hosted by James Randi whom Mr Carson turned to for advice on how to proceed with this):

I'm no fan of Randi, due to his rigid stance, but I do remember seeing the Tonight Show episode when it aired.

Mr Randi does have a rigid stance, but he is needed to weed out the fakes and charlatans out there. Too many take advantage of people who recently lost someone dear, and I find that part reprehensible.

Still, it is very compelling to watch that segment of the Tonight Show. You go, Karnak! (May the fleas of 1000 camels infest your armpits! I do remember that insult he directed to Ed and it is still funny.)

Yeah, Johnny ruled. Can't stand Letterman, Conan or any of the others, ESPECIALLY Leno....ugh...

Mr. Randi has weeded out many fakers, but has also found some that actually do have abilities. Though he does not usually state on those for some reason, except maybe in his books. In Human Devolution by Michael Cremo, he states a lot of work by Randi!

"For some reason"....exactly!

What is that "reason"? WHy should he "filter" the information in that way, as that is what it amounts to?
