Holidays..and wacky families

Postby siren13 » Wed Nov 30, 2011 1:19 pm

How is it the holidays are here already? Wasn't I just paying the kid across the street to mow my lawn ?? (notice i didn't say I mowed my lawn?? hahaha)

I mean it is time to make cookies and ham again. I celebrate Solstice and Christmas for my family - but I will not lie about being the light nazi. I hung over 8 strands around the fence in my yard and then this weekend I plan to put them on the back where my patio deck is.. I love the way it looks!!!

then I gotta plan to spend time with my nutty family..where I could write a dark comedy about them all..

I can't escape them because they live up the street.. I know we all have them..let the stories begin.. how are you all planning on spending the wonderful holiday seasons?

Merry Meet, Siren13. I also plan on celebrating Saturnalia with my family this year. I spend time with my boys and then go to my sister's house as we usually do every year. Money has been tight, so gifts will be lacking but we still will have plenty of good cheer (and egg nog 8) ).

The holiday did creep up again as it usually does. Another year gone and another year older. It seems like yesterday I was going out with my family to cut down our Christmas tree and then listening to Christmas carols as we untangled the lights and decorated the tree. Those were the days!

Ahh tell me about it! The older I get I am the one helping everyone else out. I have a sister that up until the past year was a sane normal human being..now she is in a rehab program for addiction. It is sad because she has a 17 year old son who is a junior in HS and they both live now with my mom - all since my dad passed away 2 years ago. My brother lives in El Paso so I do not see him much. But I am not letting it get me down. NOPE!!

I'm going to annoy everyone this year with cheer and possibly see if I can talk my boyfriend into letting me adopt another dog.. I have been eyeing one for almost 2 years who may be a good dog buddy for my dog. =0) so far the talk has led to him saying he will buy me an engagement ring if I stop asking about the dog. Very tongue and cheek of him if you ask me  the two cats and the dog and the boyfriend are my family really.

MEN!!! I did jokingly tell him I would rather have the dog..

he did not find that amusing.

But most of my gifts are cheapy but goodies. I make stuff a lot too. I am planning on doing a solstice dinner- I usually have a psychic reader (for fun) a chair massage therapist, and music. I have friends that come and hang out to do it for small donations which I call gas money. Gotta love it!

I could write a book on just my dysfunctional family alone!

I love the decorations and the Festivus cheer the holidays bring. While I and much of my family have been struggling, we still have our health (for the most part: If I wake up and don't see candles, it is going to be a good day! ).

Siren13, I wish your sister a speedy recovery as it has to be tough on all of the family, especially Mom who has lost her life partner. I also hope your boyfriend gets you that special little friend for Saturnalia as he will be a joy for all.

My kitties are going to love the full size tree we are going to put up. It will be fun to watch the fat ass male cats try to climb it. (I love them both dearly, but they are BIG BOYS! I hopefully will get a good picture to post on the pet thread of them.)

LOL @ the cartoons!

Christmas used to be a horrible time in our house - my mother would go completely over the top trying to make everything "picture perfect". Not because it would be nice for the family, but so that people would think well of her (she was obsessed with making sure she appeared to be the perfect wife/mother to other people - while she was in fact a terrible mother; obviously I can't comment on what sort of wife she was!)

I've been in charge of Christmas for over a decade now, and she still thinks I'm not doing it right, and spends most of December screaming at me randomly over something she thinks has to be done... Last year she went berserk because I hadn't bought any bread sauce. What the chuff is bread sauce?! I've never eaten, made, or bought it, in my life!

It's almost a relief that she now has mild Dementia and isn't paying too much attention!!

She sounds like Hyacinth of the show Keeping Up Appearances! My Mom makes a bread sauce for her bread pudding (which is sometimes good, and other times awful).

Here are some cartoons for your Christmas Cheer, Corcaigh:

She is very like Hyacinth (just don't tell my mother that!! she couldn't see any resemblance at all!) especially the thing about her neighbour having to shriek and stagger slightly when praising her candlelight supper table LOL

Keeping up Appearances reminds me of my boyfriends Mom and my Mary Kay director hahaha

(yes I also sell make up too haha which is ironic if you knew me..)

That was a funny a$$ show. Always loved her purple/ pink hair.
