BSL in OHIO

Postby siren13 » Fri Dec 16, 2011 1:06 pm

Breed Specific Legislation in ohio and other states around the country have enlisted this law because of uneducated people when it comes to dogs and dog breeds. In OHIO they list German Shepards, Rotweilers, Dobermans, bull Mastiff, Presa Canario, and of course the American Pit bull terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, as well as the American Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I am well aware that there needs to be laws govering owners of ANY kind of dog.

I have read all the negative stuff as well as positive stuff about dogs and I have a huge amount of books on them. I have trained dogs, I have worked with people that have dogs and worked with professionals in the animal field.

I own a Pit Bull/ Stafforshire Bull terrier/ boston terrier mix named Skid. I worked with him as a volunteer before I adopted him and was able to train him and socialize him to be the AMAZING goof ball he is today.

I hear all sorts of crappy stuff about these types of dog breeds. Not all is validated. Truth is that any dog can be dangerous or be AMAZING. I have also known a few cats that were dangerous as well!

But I am sharing this good news with anyone that owns a bull breed dog, not just a pitty but any of the dogs listed which also in some states includes other breeds such as Siberian Huskys, bull terriers, all types of Bull Mastiffs and other breeds that would even make you scratch your head.

Recently after much protesting and anger on the part of many OHIO owners of these types of breeds of animal can now be rest assured that they are no longer required to feel like criminals just for loving their best friends, (in some cases 4 legged kids) because Ohio has finally over turned the law that in 2008 was so terribly devastating to many dog owners.

http://www.pijac.org/_documents/oh_hb_14_dangerous_dog-breed_specific.pdf

this is the article you can share it with anyone you know in OHIO or friends with those in OHIO that have any one of these breeds of dogs. And even though many folks are fine to have an opinion about it but in my eyes this is critical thinking politics at it's best. They are finally "getting it" that a dog can be a great dog regardless of the breed.

MY whole theory and practice in life is to not remain ignorant of this type of stuff. The same should be for anyone that wants to get a specific type of dog breed. DO YOUR RESEARCH first!!!! Not every breed is good for every person..

Best Wishes to all
Happy weekend.. I plan to celebrate my good news!!! =0)Image

From my dog to your fellow fluffy friend Make it a good one;-))

This is another piece of legislation that may be well intended, but it goes about by way of throwing out the baby with the bathwater. It is not dogs who are bad, its the owners who mistreat and inter breed them to fight. The owners should be punished for animal cruelty, not the dogs themselves.

I am not from Ohio, but many other states have similar legislation awaiting votes. Everyone needs to check their state and local government and voice their concerns if there is legislation out there trying to ban breeds of dogs.

Oh you are preaching to the choir on that one Max. I always feel bad for someone that is completely ignorant of the fact that dogs are in a sense all the same it is just the breeding of certain traits that makes them do certain things good example is a Golden Retreiver. We create these things then want to get rid of them. Man is it's worst enemy sometimes.

We have so much insight and smarts but we are still not much different at the root from our cousins the Chimps.

I am hoping that these stupid laws get replaced with more common sense laws. I have been around dogs and what not and people can even watch training videos on dogs and what to look for in their behavior. If a dog bites once and had a reason- like fear it is more forgivable than if he is rewarded for being agreessive. In that case he is only being trained to be a killer and in which case the dog gets put down. Destroying a quality of life for a creature that had no control over it.

Reminds me of the stories about Chimps like Nim. Just read about a documentary on him called Project Nim. Really makes you think of just how twisted people are with animals..with out better use of words.. THOSE JERKS!

I also think people should do their homework before they get a certain type of breed. I remember reading stories of all those Dalmation dogs who were given to animal shelters when the people who saw the movie adopted them. They turned out to be more work than other breeds, so the people just gave them up rather than dealing with it. (I think the shedding problems were among the biggest for some owners. Haven't they heard of a doggie brush?)

People do the same thing with cats. They think they are easy - in a lot of cases that isn't the truth. People forget cats live a lot longer than dogs some up to 20 or more years. They get old they sometimes spray.. sometimes have to go on medication. Like mine has. He is over 15 and geriatric so..I also recommend people volunteer at local animal shelters if they don't like the smell and picking up doggy poo then - HEY maybe they should love them from afar.

In my case I have two cats and a dog and fish and geckos and they are all a ton of work and I'm happy doing it. I enjoy it. And I don't really mind cleaning up poo. I'm kind of a clean freak anyhow..but I like making them feel good and happy and comfy. =0)

Cats can be a bit of work when they get older. But they (along with dogs) are loyal to their people and love them no matter what they look like, how fat they are or if they are handicapped or not. One cat persons can be the best as they only love you and that makes me feel special (I have a one person cat who just loves me now).

When I am very sick, my cats have kept me company and keep my mind off the pain. I don't know what to think if I didn't have them.

My cat (the jack ass one) he only likes women. He tolerates my bf but can't stand men. He was in an abnormal happy go lucky mood the other day. It was so cute and funny at the same time. I think he must be like 85 in cat years.

He even let me take his photo while he sat on the couch and I watched Looney Toons. :D

It was rather unusual for him. =0) But he and the dog know when I get migraines. They practically fight over who gets to sit by me.

Cat usually wins. =0)

My female cat is a one person cat (me). She also prefers men, but both our new boy kitties (ginger orange cat and a yellow cat) love everyone. They will run up to the door if the doorbell rings just like a dog would. I have to eventually take pictures of them and post them somewhere here. (No camera of phone camera yet.)

I wasn't feeling well for the most part yesterday and my cats spent all their time lying next to me. It is comforting to know they are around for us when we need them.

I have been looking for one a bit smaller than what I have been posting. They all look very nice, and I have to choose one to fit my signature. I finally settled for the Diana Moon Goddess one as it is small without losing any quality of the image itself.

I liked the Aquarius (Iris) one, but it was too big for use as a signature. I don't want to take up too much room, and create problems for the site itself.
