Warning this thread is for people who have seen the film and want to discuss it in depth..
LOADED WITH SPOILERS !!
I said in the other thread that this movie is like life, there are many questions and even if we do find an answer it just leads to another question.
First of all I am sure that was the intention, to get us all thinking and talking.
The opening sequence of Prometheus. We fly over a spectacular vista, which may or may not be primordial Earth. According to Ridley Scott, it doesn't matter. A lone Engineer at the top of a waterfall goes through a strange ritual, drinking from a cup of black goo that causes his body to disintegrate into the building blocks of life. We see the fragments of his body falling into the river, twirling and spiralling into DNA helices.
Ridley Scott has this to say about the scene: 'That could be a planet anywhere. All he’s doing is acting as a gardener in space. And the plant life, in fact, is the disintegration of himself. If you parallel that idea with other sacrificial elements in history – which are clearly illustrated with the Mayans and the Incas – he would live for one year as a prince, and at the end of that year, he would be taken and donated to the gods in hopes of improving what might happen next year, be it with crops or weather, etcetera.
I think The Engineers are the Nephilim.
That horse shoe shaped ship is the same kind as the ship that is found in the original Alien movie on planet LV-426, the planet in this movie is LV-233 and in the same part of space. So the Engineers had multiple ships going out on missions to perhaps destroy worlds and their creation, a bio-weapon, wasn't contained very well was it!!!
There were many derelict ships on the planet, according to David, so this is not the same ship that was found by Nostromo and not the same planet. Another ship was taking off and the Space Jockey was killed when the Queen burst out of his chest.
I think whatever The Engineers were up to, it got away from them. They were trying to get back to Earth and destroy us, but for what reason ?
A comment about the story, how come they always have the dumbest scientists ? so stupid that when they see something that looks like a hissy and toothsome Space Cobra, they essentially walk right up to it and say: "aw, pretty pretty!" Because even my dog knows that if something hisses at him—he'd best back off.
I think Meredith Vickers was a robot too, but even she didn't know it. Despite the fact that she supposedly had sex with Captain Janek. I keep thinking about Blade Runner, Decker was an Android and even he didn't know it and Data was able to have sex too. All sexually active and another Android not knowing it was an Android, although some people will debate this issue.
I have lots more ideas and questions and my own answers, hopefully some more people will go see the movie. Sorry my post is all over the place, but I have many thoughts running around in my head.
Fox where are you?!
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast!
