You are right...this is unforgivable. This is what they do when they are protecting something? I have to say that part of this is because of the deplorable lack of anything even remotely resembling the teaching of history in American schools. I hardly remember anything I learned in the early years of school, but I do remember that what I learned in college contradicted most of the popular propaganda I had been taught through elementary and high school. This is what happens when we don't fund our schools...but we can fund wars, right?? Sad

With todays resources and manpower the U.S. military could have done something else. No need to destroy history for a makeshift military base that will end up abandoned.

i understand where you are all coming from, but what's worse than what's been done, is peoples ignorance in all of this.

i posted the same on another forum and very few people even cared about what's happened/going on.
all they cared about was justifying this barbaric behaviour...

VERY sad indeed :(

No wonder the people over there hate the USA. I would too!! It's not different than if someone came over here and decided that Choco Valley, Mount Rushmore or maybe the Grand Canyon would be a nice place to have a military base. I guarantee you the outrage would be huge at that point.

And Truthseeker, you are correct, I had not heard of any of that. The MSM (Main Stream Media) made sure to continue their litany of lies and not report anything like that.

Grrrrrr...I'm still cheesed...

how hypercritical of us (us=modern people) to say we are civilised and yet, we act like some ancient army burning and sacking a city to the ground.

personally, i would like to see the guys who gave the go-ahead for the base to built and the looters all brought up on charges with some lengthy prison sentences handed out as a warning to any other would be destroyer or looter to THINK before he acts so stupidly.

Just because they were 'accused' does not mean they are guilty. I personally don't believe it. Think of all the men, women, children, and elderly whose lives have been torn apart by war. All those lives mean nothing when compared to an old museum piece? How many great sites have been destroyed by war? Plenty! Keep in mind - we're humans. Stuff like this is inevitable. Unfortunate, but a fact of life.

in my humble opinion, we shouldn't even be in Iraq in the first place!
Saddam was trained and funded by the west and put in power, this is historical fact and not some "theory".

so, we build him up and the knock him down when it suits us, we invade a sovereign country and then let loose with DU ammunition (depleted uranium ammunition), contaminating the land for who knows how many millions of years, and now we destroy a world heritage site...all in the name of keeping it away from the looters?
