The Master Game by Graham Hancock and Robert Bauval

Both Graham Hancock and Robert Bauval have written many controversial books about the subjects of Egypt and possible civilizations of antiquity that I was eager to read this book. It claims to know of the Master of the Game behind all the goings on of the world.

The book starts off giving us a description of what gnosticism is and how the Cathars embodied it back in the 12th Century. We are also told of other groups which had gnostic ideas and how they differed from the Church. For those who have books on the subject, there is nothing new learned.

Freemasonry and Pagan symbolism of knowledge are also gone over, and how some of the early members of the Freemasons built monuments to symbolize what they believed in. Again, there are many books out there with the same knowledge.

When we get to the end of the book for the big reveal, it turns out that we are getting ready to start another Crusade according to the authors. While they do not state the book is about conspiracies and do their best to show how Zionist conspiracies in general are wrong, it does seem that is the conclusion they have reached. With the majority of the book dedicated to gnosticism and secret societies of knowledge, very little is left for the modern day interpretations of what is going on.

The book does have many interesting parts to it and there is plenty of research to back up the claims. But the claims made are not very controversial to begin with. The sensationalistic title of the book and description doesn't help as we want to know who the Master is and what the Game is exactly.

This time, Mr Hancock and Mr Bauval unmask no one. I am tempted to give the book a lower rating, but the majority of the book is a good read. It's the ending that is terrible. This is also a reprint of their book The Talisman, which I did not read. Some people may not like this book being touted as new when it is just a reprint with a few new paragraphs added.
