What do you think is under/in the Sphinx?

So how were the pyramids really built? Did the ancient Egyptians know electricity? Did they have lightbulbs? Knock yourself out trying to uncover the elusive answers...

What do you think is under/in the Sphinx?

Postby JessieD » Fri Jan 13, 2012 3:59 pm

Image The Great Sphinx lies next to the pyramids of Giza. Archaeologists have found small deep holes that lead to some kind of subterranean chamber underneath the sphinx, but Egyptian officials have not allowed anyone to disturb the massive structure. My question to you guys is: What do you think is in/under the Sphinx?

Here are some interesting photos of the sphinx.

These areas have been known to the Egyptologists for quite some time and still no excavation of them. This has always puzzled me, unless they went there in secret and removed what would change the world view. (I hope that is not the case.)

I do think there could be burial areas underneath the Sphinx. It is also possible some library could be housed there, or it could of been used as storage by the pharaohs.

They could also be empty, which would be a shame.

I am wondering if they have any ways of telling whether there are artifacts in those chambers using modern tools?

I keep thinking that there's a library under the sphinx too.

You'd think that it would be easy to fish a light and a video camera down one of the airway holes. I don't know why they don't do that.

Simple answer: Dr Hawass.

I have no idea what could be under it but the head is way too small for the body and I think that the Egyptians changed the original head, recarved it to look like one of the pharoahs. I think it had a lion's head originally. Perhaps the lion's head was damaged so, they took the opportunity to make the Sphinx look like whoever was in charge in Egypt at the time.

Since Hawass won't let anyone explore it, I'm pretty sure that whatever is down there has nothing to do with Egypt. Hawass wouldn't want anyone to think that anything in Egypt could possibly have been built by anyone other than an Egyptian.

I'm certain it was a lion to begin with too and wouldn't it just be the best thing ever if there was a Hall of Records under it.

Or a mummified alien corpse!

Maybe someone has been there first. The 18th Dynasty Pharaohs were very interested in the Sphinx. Here's a site by good 'ol Dr Hawass http://guardians.net/hawass/sphinx2.htm

I'm not saying that Thutmosis IV or others found anything, but it is possible. This was the grandfather of Akhenaten who, I believe, is closely associated with the Biblical Moses. It's very speculative, but in my opinion Judaism has a technological device at its heart, and the Sphinx is a possible source for such an out-of-place artifact.
